Quantifying Ecosystem Services of High Mountain Lakes across Different Socio-Ecological Contexts

چکیده
Mountain lakes are highly sensitive to global change, requiring sustainable management strategies that support crucial ecosystem services (ES). However, small mountain rarely in the focus of ES assessments, and indicators potentially lacking. Therefore, this study aimed at comprehensively assessing key 15 located two regions European Alps. We involved local stakeholders experts identify important ES. quantified eight non-monetary terms, using 29 based on limnological, spatial socio-economic data. Finally, we evaluated relation socio-ecological context lakes. The most included surface water for non-drinking purposes, maintaining populations habitats, outdoor recreation, aesthetic value, entertainment representation, scientific research, education as well existence, option, or bequest value. Quantitative results indicate varying levels across Based 12 different variables, identified four groups differing also five Maintaining value option were rather independent from context. Our findings contribute a deeper understanding lakes, supporting development regions.

Socio-Cultural and Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services Provided by Mediterranean Mountain Agroecosystems
The aim of this work was to elucidate the socio-cultural and economic value of a number of ecosystem services delivered by mountain agroecosystems (mostly grazing systems) in Euro-Mediterranean regions. We combined deliberative (focus groups) and survey-based stated-preference methods (choice modelling) to, first, identify the perceptions of farmers and other citizens on the most important ecos...
متن کاملTEK and biodiversity management in agroforestry systems of different socio-ecological contexts of the Tehuacán Valley
Transformation of natural ecosystems into intensive agriculture is a main factor causing biodiversity loss worldwide. Agroforestry systems (AFS) may maintain biodiversity, ecosystem benefits and human wellbeing, they have therefore high potential for concealing production and conservation. However, promotion of intensive agriculture and disparagement of TEK endanger their permanence. A high div...
متن کاملFood Web Topology in High Mountain Lakes
Although diversity and limnology of alpine lake systems are well studied, their food web structure and properties have rarely been addressed. Here, the topological food webs of three high mountain lakes in Central Spain were examined. We first addressed the pelagic networks of the lakes, and then we explored how food web topology changed when benthic biota was included to establish complete tro...
متن کاملWealth Accounting, Ecological Capital and Ecosystem Services
This paper develops a methodology for including ecosystem services in a wealth accounting framework. Accounting for ecosystems and their services leads to adjusting net domestic product (NDP) for the direct benefits provided by the current stock of ecosystems but not for their indirect contributions in terms of protecting or supporting economic activity, property and human lives. When ecosystem...
متن کاملCultural ecosystem services of mountain regions: Modelling the aesthetic value
Mountain regions meet an increasing demand for pleasant landscapes, offering many cultural ecosystem services to both their residents and tourists. As a result of global change, land managers and policy makers are faced with changes to this landscape and need efficient evaluation techniques to assess cultural ecosystem services. This study provides a spatially explicit modelling approach to est...
